VMI Encouraging New Congregations
Where there is no local church of Christ, Christians should prayerfully work to establish one. A congregation may begin in a home, rented meeting place, school, or other suitable location. The church is not the building; it is the people who have been called into Christ and who assemble to worship and serve Him. VMI provides ideas, encouragement, teaching materials, and coaching for Christians who want to help begin a faithful local congregation. VMI has organized the Facebook group “We Start churches of Christ Here Now” to encourage and to support missionaries and church leaders in Asia, India, and Africa. This follows the New Testament example: “Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.” —Acts 14:23, NIV
